First day of classes

Let's get right into it. My first class was Core-111, my TO writing class. My first thought was that the class was rather large. But actually, we have some 15 students. It's not bad. It's really promising that the instructor is willing to work with us on essay drafts. I hope to not worry about grades, and just focus on learning.

Second, I had Math-126, or Calculus II. Today's lecture was all stuff I'd known before. As would be expected for the first day of school. He talked about integrals. The really interesting thing, though, is the professor himself. He seems to be strange in his speech, and I think he sounded nervous today. But he does seem to be very smart.

Finally, I had Core-102. This was a discussion of Orpheus. I don't enjoy this stuff, but it's okay. I think I can survive through the semester. Greek classics just aren't interesting to me.

I've got tons of homework and I've got to organize my desk and submit all those medical forms and stuff that USC wants. But I always put these things off because I don't want to do them..

AlcoholEdu

I'm finally doing that AlcoholEdu thing. I just wanted to note that it stinks because it doesn't work in Firefox. And it is not standards-compliant and it does use proprietary browser-specific Javascript.

Didn't blog yesterday

But I tried out the dive-in movie and finished writing my TO essay (barely on time). Printed it this morning. Marks Hall is great. Going to Engineering Welcome at 1:30 pm now. Later.

RHP at USC: Day 1

I intend to write a few words here about RHP in general. We'll see how long I can keep it up. It's really up to the rest of you RHP folks what this blog will come to be. I think it'll be good if some of you also post your perspectives here. It'll help us communicate in another medium.

Today was our first day at USC; move-in day. I think all the RHP folks made it, except Shirley. She has some visitors from China, apparently, so she'll be coming Friday. Most of us missed dinner. The internet connection's great. I'll post about that in my blog.

Textbooks

The official date for the posting of the textbook list for our classes is tomorrow, August 8, but according to many people at College Confidential, it's already up. So I went to https://camel.usc.edu/books/main_books.asp (or you could just use OASIS) and found out what books I need to get. It's nice, because now I can order my books online so I can save a ton of money. The book list only gets me more excited about school, but I've had this feeling before, before the start of every school year thus far. And recently, especially for English, I've always been excited to buy the books at the bookstore or online, but once I crack them open, my excitement turns to impatience, usually because I'm having a hard time understanding things.

Still, I'm looking forward to this year.
